Human Service Ministry
Human Service Ministry
The Human Service Ministry is a group of parishioners who volunteer to assist the frail, elderly, individuals, and families in need who live in Southeast Volusia County. They are empowered by our pastor, the generous contributors of Our Lady Star of the Sea, and most importantly, guided by the Holy Spirit.
The Human Service Ministry volunteers at Gifts of Love food bank, offers assistance at the Pleasant Grove Church and the Resource Center on Washington Street weekly. The ministry offers prescription assistance at Little Drug and Stewart Marchman Mental Health Clinic, utility assistance, and occasional rent assistance. This ministry partners with Christ Community Church in the Hi-5 Program, which provides weekend food packs to 100 needy elementary children in New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater. The ministry works with the Project ID program, which provides individuals with birth certificates and Florida IDs in order to obtain employment. The HSM donates Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets to the needy during the holiday season.
